Prior to 1983 employees of the Northwest and Alaska Fisheries Science Center voted to organize and join a union. Today our union chapter represents the non-supervisory employees of the Northwest Fisheries Science Center and the Alaska Fisheries Science Center and all of their offices and laboratories, (except the Auke Bay Laboratory). This group is the bargaining unit of the Fisheries Chapter. This is an “open shop” in that employees in bargaining unit are represented by but are not required to be members of their union. Only employees who become dues paying members have a voice in the union. Our union dues are comparatively cheap, only $9.85 per pay period or 0.04% of your base pay, whichever is greater. Becoming a member is easy - click on the membership page. Our Fisheries Chapter is one of 3 Chapters of Local 8A. Our union is the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE.org). The other chapters are the NOAA Emergency Response Division, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle Division. |
